The cake

cake

This is the cake I want. My mom found it in an Instyle Weddings magzine, by Collette Foley. She has a website, but of course my mom will be making ours. I’m getting a little frustrated with the topper situation, as Jo in not fond of the needle felting look, so my mom is planning to make something from gum paste, I believe.

cake toppers

etsy is my dream world for so many things. Actually my dream world is where I get to make the crafts. This is something Jo and I will need to discuss because making stuff makes me happy. However, I can’t design to save my life. That’s where the magicians at etsy wow me. Look at these guys from feltmeupdesigns

from http://www.laurenalane.com/toppers.html, she has an etsy too. Of course, we also have a friend who has an etsy (Mosey) and she makes some pretty adorable stuff too. Now the question is, do I attempt to make a topper myself, let my mom make something out of frosting, buy one of these super cuties, or have our close friend work her magic? I hear my dad’s voice say “Decisions. Decisions.” His way of expressing that there are many lovely choices to choose from, often a statement he would make at a buffet.

wedding cakes

My mom is making the cake. Jo is nervous. My mom sent me a cake (in the mail!) for my 30th birthday and Jo wasn’t a fan of the frosting. I’m not really sure what it’s called, but it is pretty yucky. My mom and I talked about this. She considered traditional white frosting, which she explained she cannot spread very well. She considered poured sugar and poured white chocolate. After a few discussions, I got Jo to agree that the frosting she originally wanted to use was the look that I wanted and wouldn’t be the worst idea. So here is a cake I found that is close to what I want. An even closer cake I have in a magazine and may post later.

I love the acorns and leaves, but I may want green leaves, depending on the season. I doubt the pumpkins will work. Either way, I feel pretty confident my Moms can make this. However, I will admit that both my mom and Jo’s are a little more traditional. I think both expect (secretly want) roses and bows abound.
