I just got a new quote. Who knew shedding 6 hours would save $500!? Jo is off to get a money order in the mail and then we will tackle sending out invites.

where we’re at with the reception
So for clarity, we are trying to get the Jorge Hernandez Cultural Center (http://www.iba-etc.org/claboston/JHCC_Rental.html ) for the reception. We are pretty sure we will be able to secure the date next week. We got a quote last week, but the person who handles reservations is only there part time, so we still need to get a contract, etc.
I found this couple’s pictures on line http://wedding.scottthomson.info/weddingpictures.html . They had the ceremony & reception there and tons of pictures of the inside.
Yelp also has a profile of the venue. http://www.yelp.com/biz/jorge-hernandez-cultural-center-boston .
This picture is not from a wedding, but I think it’s a good shot of the venue’s potential and depth. (I have to keep in mind that if it rains, we’ll likely move the ceremony here too).
I will find something to worry about
So I’m trying not to jinx us by talking about the venue or date because we’ve had a handful of rejections (really, that’s what it feels like when someone says, ‘sorry we don’t do weddings’ or ‘sorry, we’re all booked’ or my favorite, ‘sorry our prices are non-negotiable’). Anyway, if we get the venue we have our little hearts set on, we are discussing not using the traditional caterers and maybe doing some of it ourselves, with the help of family & friends and with a lot of food dropped off by our favorite restaurants. If we do this, we will have a whole host of questions to answer creatively. For example, paper, plastic, ceramic, china, silver, aluminum, cloth, etc…. Luckily the venue has tables, chairs and table cloths (for an additional fee). They do not have dishes. I can’t imagine paper plates and plastic cups, so I imagine we’ll have to rent those. Or we could do what these guys did: http://abackyardwedding.blogspot.com/search/label/dishes . Personally, I love this idea. I don’t think we can have as much of a mix-matched kind of asthetic in the venue we’re looking at, but I think we could probably find a lot of ivory/white dishes with limited color so that they didn’t clash. I was also worrying about napkins. I feel like I have to have cloth, but renting them seems like such a silly waste and a wasted opportunity to get to do a little craft with a friend (hint hint to the crafty friends). I liked this tutorial http://charamichele.com/blog/2007/12/handmade-cloth-napkins-tutorial.html, I could do this, even with my aversion to irons.
inspiration for our reception
Jo and I have no idea if we will get the reception site we have our collective eye on. However, if we do, I’ve been scoping (sp?) out this website http://wedding.scottthomson.info/index.html for ideas. This couple had a potluck. I don’t think we can expect a full on potluck for 100 plus people, but maybe a partial potluck. Of course, heating food and all kinds of questions come up. After worring a little too much about this, I noticed that this couple used a little help from a catering company. Keep your fingers crossed. More on this later.
This wedding is my favorite on stylemepretty.com

and they had pizza. Jo’s not down with the idea, but “I’m just sayin’”.
