Lodging
So the truth is – Boston is ridiculously expensive. Lodging especially. Here are a couple ideas on how to save (mostly from yelp):
- Consider web reservations from priceline.com, travelocity, expedia.com, or orbitz.com. Also, check out http://hotels.com or www.tripadvisor.com and run a search on all the above.
- For convenience, there is the Roundhouse Bestwestern hotel right down the street from the reception site and rates start at $169 a night online (actually, try calling there b/c I got a quote for $145 on the phone or put it into tripadvisor.com and see what you get). http://www.bestwesternboston.com/ .
- Also I recommend sharing if at all possible. Please contact me if you are willing to bunk up with another person or group.
- If you’re going to be driving, consider staying outside of Boston, in a surrounding area, such as Waltham, Quincy, Braintree or Woburn (some public transportation is available). Also, Jo’s family lives in Stoughton. There’s no public transportation in from Stoughton, but many other people will be traveling from there.
- Consider bed & breakfast accommodations.
- If you’re on a really tight budget, the YMCA on Huntington has hostel rooms starting at $35 per night for a single with shared bathroom. http://www.ymcaboston.org/main/accommodations/
- If you want to stay at a really nice place, one amazing couple is staying here: http://www.hotelmarlowe.com/ and it’s really nice, but it’s not the cheapest (starts around $200, but you can get a room with 2 double beds and split the cost with 3 other people). They often have discount deals if you sign up at www.kimptonhotels.com . And they allow pets!
- Jo and I changed our reservation again and we’re staying at Hotel Marlowe!!! I just got an email for a rate of $129 per night up to September 7th. You have to sign up for their deals at www.kimptonhotels.com and just wait for a good deal to come in your email.
- One last thing, I use www.yelp.com a lot to read opinions about stuff. If you go there, the reception is in South End neighborhood.
