our garden

Here are some pics of our garden that Angie planted. It started as a few little flowers and now it looks like it’s going to take over the sidewalk! The orange flowers are growing the most, which is perfect as it starts to feel like fall here in Pittsburgh.

Update from Labor day weekend

This has been a pretty good weekend so far. We finished puting the trim around our kitchen floor. It was quite the ordeal because we had two doorways to trim out and both of them were weird shaped due to the old flooring being higher and the baseboards not going all the way to the floor. We (Jo) had to cut a bunch of little pieces and we had to use every tool imaginable from the sander to the drill. Overall it looks pretty good, not perfect and not professional but no noticable imperfections from a standing view. As long as we don’t have any guests lie down on the kitchen floor, we should be good to go.

We also went to dinner this weekend to celebrate our 2nd year anniversary. We went to a restaurant called Salt of the Earth. www.saltpgh.com . The food was good and if money was not an issue, we would go often. I doubt we’ll be back anytime soon, especially after baby is born.

This brings me to our next activity, we went to have a sonogram this weekend. We paid out of pocket and got the traditional package (not 3-D) because I just wanted a little peak and the 3-D version was at least twice the price at $200 or so. I expected to feel like it was a waste but elected to do it anyway, since we still have 68 (as of today) days to go and our insurance does not cover any more little peeks at the him. The experience was great! We confirmed that he is definately a He and at the very end, she switched him to 3-D and we got two shots of his face. We also got a DVD and we posted the video on youtube, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtMWAf-_-Zo . It’s a lot of footage of his little boy parts, which are difficult to discern and some in outs of his face but at the very end (feel free to skip to that part), she got him yawning and it was so cute I started laughing and the camera moved.

I scaned in the two pics of his face. Of course they’re not perfect, it’s a little dark in there but it looks like he has my downturned mouth and Jo thinks he may have the start of his nose. We’ll see if we’re right in 2 months and 8 days!

Registries, needs and wants

Well, I’m pretty much over ‘wants’ for the baby’s room. I will get a rug and an expedite bookshelf but I have realized that everything else is no  big deal. Most of the other items  I don’t have yet I realize I will not need for months, if I need them at all. I have also realized that I don’t have room for everything, including the rocking chair I posted from Urban Outfitters. I don’t expect too many more gifts but I think I am going to keep my Target registry to organize things he needs even after his birth (think Christmas, birthday, etc.) As far as Babies R Us goes, I love all the gifts I have received but overall they are too pricey for me, so I don’t imagine getting much more there.

The Nursery

Thanks to our friend Matt, the crib and dresser made it safely to our house/apartment/home. Jo was really sick this weekend, so I took the reins and put together the furniture. Jo is feeling a little better now and we have plenty of projects left for him, but these pictures are all my hard work (well, actually he helped pick them up and carry them into the house, which was no small task).

We still have a full sized bed in the nursery, so these pictures are really condensed. My plan is to get a large white expedit shelf from Ikea and a light colored rug. I plan to divide alot of the colorful items into little cubbies on the expedite bookshelf, but for now everything is all together.

Mini house tour

So the house is a work in progress, but I’m including a couple pics because I fear it may never be ready enough, so here’s a general idea for our friends and family who might not make it out this way. There will be more pics of the kitchen onces it’s complete and of the nursery of course. Enjoy!

It’s raining baby…gifts!

My sister and mother in law threw us a shower last weekend. It was adorable so I’m including a bunch of pics of the details. Lisa, my sister in law did a lot of the decorating (with my mother in law’s help) and my mother in law, Angelina (Angie) cooked tons of delicious food. It was all family and everyone also brought food, so it was quite the feast. The only draw back was baby being so big I couldn’t eat everything. I did not save room for cake, but I ate cake anyway and it was worth it! We got so many gifts, we have stuffed his closet completely full. Now we’re waiting to pick up the bed and dresser so that we can start putting things away. I’m also planning to get out thank you cards yet this weekend. Wish me luck! Oh also enjoy the last couple pics of Jo playing with the kids.

Greg and Beth get married!

We went to North Adams Massachusetts last weekend for the marriage of Greg and Beth. It was beautiful. I loved every detail. It was kind of the wedding of my dreams. Except my wedding was also the wedding of my dreams. Basically, I am really happy for them and can’t wait to see pictures. Here’s a couple we took. They’re not so great. I think we’re going to start researching a better camera because ours only gets good pictures about 20% of the time. It seemed better at first and it was a great gift but for some reason it just is not making the cut anymore. I will avoid ranting about technology and how I can never win and get on to the pictures. Oh one more comment, there are a bunch of pics of Jo and I because we alternate looking good/bad and couldn’t seem to get one where both of us looked presentable, so I just posted them all. Oh and I’m lazy when it comes to sorting pictures. Here are the pics:

Forget the gliders, I want this:

So according to one of the websites I read about babies, the most unnecessary item people got for their nurseries and did not need was a rocking chair/glider. Under this declaration, a bunch of people disagreed and declared their love for their rockers/gliders. I really don’t like the gliders I see at Babies R Us and Target, etc, beause they are dreadful looking. My friend pointed out that not many people will actually go in the nursery, so it won’t matter much. As true as this may be, our apartment is not that big (we bought a building with two apartments, so we still live in an apartment), and I can’t imagine having such an eyesore consuming so much of it. For a while, I was thinking I wanted an older rocking chair and my mom suggested getting one from Cracker Barrel, which totally fit the bill. The benefit of this would be that I could move it to the porch or livingroom if it did not prove to have as much utility as anticipated. A great friend of mine suggested getting a really nice looking glider but the prices were unacceptable at $700 plus for most. This chair seems to be a nice middle ground. It is very similar to the vintage chair Jo has in our livingroom, so eventually it can be moved to the livingroom to make more room for another little one if necessary. It should be slightly more comfortable than an old rocking chair too. I’m still a little unsure about the price but for now it’s at the top of my list.

The Nursery, take one

About his nursery, we have a room which is currently serving as the guest room. It’s painted a Martha Stewart color called Pip with a bright white trim on the windows and doors. Pip is an off white color. I really like the idea of keeping the furniture and most of the contents white or neutral and then having toys and books that add the bright colors. I’m actually looking for a neutral/off white bedding set because I really don’t like all stuff that’s saturated with colors and patterns. And I DO NOT LIKE THE COLOR BLUE. I don’t mind blue clothing and blue jeans but I don’t want blue furniture, bedding, supplies. I do, however, like the color navy. There is a major difference here. Navy = acceptable. Blue = bllllluuuuggghhhhh. I’ve grabbed a couple pictures from around the internet of nurseries that kind of demostrate what I imagine. Most of them are from http://www.ohdeedoh.com/ . I’ve been saving them and not keeping track so forgive me if I do not credit someone. Here’s a little slide show:

Jo doesn’t like the rabbit I posted! This makes me laugh. It’s like $50 and not worth it to me but he fact that it’s something I do like and something he doesn’t makes me wonder how this nursery is going to come together.
